Upgrades

Five Nations Energy Inc. continues to work on upgrades to ensure that the supply of electricity to its customers is safe and reliable. Ensuring reliability also means proactively taking steps to reduce the length of time that power supply is interrupted by line or substation problems.

FNEI has completed the upgrades in Attawapiskat that will ensure rapid return of power if the main transformer is taken offline. A second transformer has been installed in Fort Albany, and is awaiting energization of the system upgrades that were recently installed to be completed. The second transformer for Kashechewan is expected to be delivered via the Winter Road in February 2009 and work will begin on the installation with energization anticipated for May 2009.

The twinning of the line to support the Victor Diamond Mine Project also provided an opportunity for FNEI to add a fibre optic cable to its system. This fibre optic line will provide better monitoring of the FNEI system and some of the fibres will be leased to allow for high speed Internet, better phone service, and more opportunities for new technologies like tele-health.

The construction of the twinned line is now complete and the transfer of assets to Five Nations Energy Inc will occur once the Impact Benefit Agreements with the communities are completed.
