The Story of Five Nations Energy Inc.

Welcome to “Over My Dead Body – The Story of Five Nations Energy Inc — a documentary that explores the inspiring journey of Indigenous leadership, sustainability, and resilience in powering the future.

In this film, we follow the story of Five Nations Energy Inc., the only 100% Indigenous-owned electricity transmission company in Canada, founded by the Fort Albany, Kashechewan, and Attawapiskat First Nations. Against incredible odds and in one of the most logistically challenging regions in the country, they built a power line that not only brought reliable electricity to their communities, but sparked a larger movement of self-determination and innovation.

Through interviews, breathtaking visuals, and rarely heard voices, this documentary sheds light on the power of community, the urgency of energy equity, and the strength of reclaiming control over vital infrastructure.

This is more than a story about energy — it’s a story about empowerment, legacy, and the future of Indigenous-led development.
